Our DIY Chicken Run with PVC Pipes

So a follow up to our chicken coop post, this is our run. It is movable and light enough for one person to lift and carry.

LOCATION: Right under the cherry blossom tree so the girls get dappled sunlight and and some full sun in the early afternoon.

DESIGN: We actually got the PVC pipe and joint idea from some other forum. It’s basically like adult Kinnex! I know its kinda fugly but, the material is super cheap, light, easy for us to cut and manipulate, and much easier to keep clean. The fencing is just chicken wire tied with zip ties (this is basically like my potato cage approach).

Then…at the half way point of making the run, I was all like: ” wait…why are we building this so high? I mean we can raise a kid in here…either species. J/k. Sort of.

So, we took everything apart and reduced the height by half, which was not a big hassle because using PVC pipes and joints made it that easy. I cut/formed an opening to match the coop entry. We still need to work on the plank and the top netting over the run. But over all…not bad right?

Also, does anyone have tips on stretching and flattening out a roll of chicken wire. Thought I was gonna lose my eyes…
